The 1935 Ocean Patrol Corvette is an 800-long-ton, ocean-going patrol and rescue warship developed for the Coast Guard of Gondara. Its primary design requirements are sustained operation in heavy southern seas and a 5,500-nautical-mile patrol range at 12 knots. Maximum speed and offensive armament are secondary to endurance, seaworthiness, reliability, and the ability to assist distressed shipping.

The vessel is smaller and more economical than the 1,450-ton Shepard-class frigate. It is intended to provide widespread maritime presence, identification, armed interception, anti-submarine screening, rescue, and emergency towing throughout Gondara's maritime approaches. It is not a high-speed fleet destroyer or a replacement for the frigate's greater firepower.

Displacement convention: The class's 800 long tons is its full-load displacement, with its 165-long-ton fuel bunker capacity already included. Fuel is not added to the 800-ton figure. A separate official standard displacement has not been established for this class.

Development and Design Priorities
The 1935 design was conceived for Gondara's unusually extensive coastline and exclusion-zone patrols. Coast Guard vessels must undertake lengthy open-ocean passages, including southern sectors exposed to the Roaring Forties and, when assigned farther south, the Furious Fifties. The corvette consequently favors good sea behavior, reserve buoyancy, dependable propulsion, protected working positions, and ample fuel capacity over the highest attainable speed.

The ship is designed as a patrol and rescue vessel that is also armed. Its design priorities, in order, are:

# Heavy-weather seaworthiness and structural survivability.
# Sustained economical cruising at 12 knots.
# An operational range of 5,500 nautical miles at 12 knots.
# Armed inspection and interception, maritime rescue, medical treatment, and emergency towing.
# Practical anti-submarine and local antiaircraft defense.
# A maximum speed of approximately 19–20 knots, when conditions permit.

The name designates a 1935-pattern class design. Individual ship names, hull numbers, shipyard allocations, and the eventual production total have not yet been entered into the class register.

Hull and Seaworthiness
The corvette is 215 ft (65.5 m) overall, with a 34 ft (10.36 m) beam and a design full-load draft of approximately 9 ft. The hull is deliberately full enough to support fuel and stores but retains suitable proportions for moderate speed and open-ocean seakeeping.

A high-flared bow and an extended raised forecastle covering approximately 60 percent of the hull length reduce boarding seas and protect the forward weapon and bridge approaches. Aft working areas are fitted with strong drainage and secure access. The ship uses welded internal structure where practicable, closely spaced framing, reinforced watertight bulkheads, and double-bottom tanks.

Principal heavy-weather features include:

* Strongly framed steel hull, reinforced stem, and protected machinery spaces.
* High, flared forecastle with ample reserve buoyancy forward.
* Substantial freeing ports and high-capacity deck drainage.
* Fully enclosed, heated wheelhouse and protected crew accommodation.
* Secure boat stowage and powered launching arrangements.
* Effective internal subdivision, emergency pumping, and damage-control access.
* Heating for essential fuel, piping, and exposed equipment using engine-waste-heat or auxiliary electrical systems; no main-propulsion steam boiler is required.

Southern Ocean capability is not an all-weather speed guarantee. In severe storms the ship may have to reduce speed, change course, or suspend boat operations to preserve the vessel and crew.

Machinery and Endurance
Main Propulsion
Power is provided by two eight-cylinder, four-stroke marine diesel engines with period-appropriate Büchi exhaust turbocharging. The engines drive two shafts through direct-coupled machinery, with three-bladed bronze propellers. Maximum combined output is rated at approximately 5,400 brake horsepower.

The intended maximum speed is 19.1 knots in suitable conditions. Machinery, propellers, and fuel distribution are instead optimized for extended service at 12 knots, with a preliminary shaft-power requirement equivalent to approximately 1,100 BHP. Final power and speed depend upon acceptance and sea trials.

Fuel and Cruising Range
The corvette carries 165 long tons of diesel fuel, reduced from the earlier 185-ton bunker proposal. Fuel is carried low within the hull, principally in protected double-bottom and adjoining bunker spaces.

Its rated patrol capability is 5,500 nautical miles at 12 knots, equivalent to approximately 19.1 days underway at constant speed. This is the operational design rating, not a guarantee that every storm, rescue diversion, or extended high-speed interception can be absorbed without replenishment.

The fuel allocation intentionally allows for auxiliary consumption, less favorable machinery loading, foul weather, and an operating reserve. The preliminary machinery calculations are not used to claim a longer official operating range.

Electrical and Auxiliary Systems
* 2 × 40 kW diesel-driven electrical generators.
* 1 × 15 kW emergency diesel generator.
* Fuel and freshwater transfer pumps, redundant bilge pumps, and firefighting arrangements.
* Enclosed heated wheelhouse; insulated quarters and equipment rooms.
* Freshwater evaporator with a nominal 5-ton-per-day output.
* Refrigerated and dry storage designed for up to 45 days of food and general stores, subject to complement and rescue loading.

Armament and Detection
Main and Light Weapons
Position !! Weapon !! Installation and purpose
Forward forecastle || 1 × 75 mm L/50 dual-purpose gun || Fully enclosed, weatherproof single turret; surface engagements, warning and disabling fire, and limited antiaircraft defense
Port and starboard upperworks || 2 × single 25 mm autocannon || Individually enclosed, weatherproof, lightly splinter-protected mountings; close-range air and surface defense

Aft quarterdeck and stern || 2 × depth-charge rails; 2 × throwers || Basic anti-submarine attack and deterrence

The design ammunition allowance is approximately 400 rounds for the 75 mm gun, 3,600 rounds total for the 25 mm guns, and 4,000 rounds per twin 12.5 mm mounting. Depth-charge stowage is planned for up to 50–60 charges, depending upon their actual type, complete loaded weight, and final deck arrangements. These stowages must remain within the class's 800-long-ton full-load limit.

The ship has no torpedo tubes, offensive mine battery, aircraft, or helicopter facilities.

Detection and Fire Control
The original 1935 equipment fit emphasizes period-appropriate optical and acoustic systems:

* Bridge-mounted 2-meter optical coincidence rangefinder.
* Mechanical high-angle/low-angle fire-control equipment for the 75 mm gun.
* Early active acoustic submarine-detection equipment, supplemented by passive listening.
* High-frequency and medium-frequency radio, with radio direction finding.
* Large carbon-arc searchlight for night identification and rescue.
* No radar in the original 1935 configuration. Later modernization is possible but not assumed.

Boats, Rescue, and Recovery
Fast Interception and Rescue Boats
Every ship carries two powered, fast interception/rescue motorboats, stowed to port and starboard under heavy-duty powered davits. They are intended for rapid boarding-party deployment, pursuit of small unauthorized craft, casualty recovery, and assistance to vessels that cannot safely be approached hull-to-hull.

The motorboats are approximately 24–27 ft long, with period-appropriate high-output marine engines and reinforced hulls. At least one is arranged to recover casualties on stretchers. A small auxiliary pulling craft may be carried where deck space allows, but is not a substitute for the two standard powered boats.

These are conventional 1930s motorboats, not modern semi-rigid inflatable craft. Even when the corvette itself remains on patrol, boat launch and recovery are suspended when sea conditions make them unsafe.

Medical and Survivor Facilities
* Dedicated sickbay and enclosed first-aid/treatment space.
* Medical stores for injuries, exposure, drowning, and prolonged rescue response.
* Stretchers, rescue nets, line-throwing gear, and protected casualty transfer points.
* Emergency blankets, spare clothing, food, and drinking water for survivors.
* Temporary protected accommodation for persons rescued or detained at sea.

The standard complement is 68 personnel: 6 officers, 12 chief or petty officers, and 50 enlisted sailors. Extra survivors may be carried temporarily, reducing the ship's effective comfort and operating endurance.

Towing, Pumping, and Recovery
The ship is fitted for serious emergency towing and assistance, rather than merely carrying a light harbor towline. Its equipment includes:

* Reinforced towing foundations and substantial towing bitts.
* Proper towing fairlead and heavy ocean-going hawser.
* Powered towing/handling winch and recovery tackle.
* Emergency dewatering pumps and transferable hose equipment.
* Damage-control, firefighting, and salvage-assistance tools.
* Strong securing points and working arrangements for boat and survivor recovery.

The stern equipment layout separates the towing lead from depth-charge handling paths to the extent practicable. The corvette can assist and tow distressed vessels within its power and sea-state limits; it is not a dedicated ocean salvage tug capable of moving vessels of unlimited displacement.

Operational Doctrine
Coast Guard Service
The 1935 class supplements the Coast Guard's 36 Shepard-class frigates. Its economy of operation and rescue facilities make it suitable for routine maritime security and long-range patrols within Gondara's 300-mile exclusion zone. Its duties include:

* Long-distance offshore surveillance, identification, and challenge of unfamiliar shipping.
* Inspection, boarding, interception, anti-smuggling, and anti-piracy operations.
* Protection of commercial traffic and assistance to ships navigating dangerous southern seas.
* Search and rescue, medical aid, emergency pumping, and towing.
* Anti-submarine listening, search, and limited depth-charge attacks.
* Convoy assistance or supporting patrols when ordered.

The Coast Guard's three permanent Shepard-class security stations remain at West Vantage, East Vantage, and the Embassy Island–mainland passage. The corvettes do not replace that frigate requirement. They extend routine coverage across the much larger moving patrol network, working with frigates, aircraft, shore stations, and the Navy of Gondara.

Long-Distance Patrol Pattern
A representative offshore circuit around the Gondaran continent measures approximately 4,922 nautical miles. At the class's rated 12-knot cruising speed, the passage would require approximately 17.1 days of continuous movement, before allowing for challenges, inspections, rescues, weather delays, and route changes.

The class's 5,500-nautical-mile rated range is intended to make this circuit possible under design conditions. The normal operational plan can use intermediate resupply or changes of course where necessary. Patrol vessels vary their distance offshore so that their locations and interception routes are not perfectly predictable.

Corvette patrol assignments, departure intervals, and numbers at sea are not fixed by this class specification; no production total or permanent patrol strength is assumed here.
