Assault Platoon

The Assault Platoon is the primary maneuver formation of Gondaran Assault Infantry. Built around four AV-35-C Mechanized Assault Carriers, it combines infantry, anti-armor capability, combat engineers, medical support, and vehicle-mounted firepower into a single offensive combat formation.

Unlike Mobile Infantry Platoons, Assault Platoons are designed to breach enemy defenses, destroy organized resistance, seize objectives, and maintain offensive momentum. The platoon is optimized for shock action and aggressive maneuver rather than prolonged defensive operations.

Organization

Element Quantity Personnel Vehicles Notes
Assault Squad 3 27 AV-35-C Primary assault maneuver elements.
Heavy Weapons Squad 1 9 AV-35-C Anti-armor, breaching, casualty care, and suppressive fire support.
Platoon Command Group 1 4 Included Above Vehicle commanders distributed among all four carriers.
Vehicle Crews 4 8 Included Above Driver and gunner assigned to each carrier.
Total 48 4× AV-35-C Fully mechanized assault formation.

Platoon Command Structure

Command personnel are intentionally distributed throughout the platoon to prevent a single vehicle loss from disrupting leadership and control.

Vehicle Vehicle Commander Responsibility
Assault Vehicle 1 Platoon Leader (O-2) Tactical command and maneuver control.
Assault Vehicle 2 Platoon Sergeant (E-7) Execution, discipline, casualty management, and battlefield supervision.
Assault Vehicle 3 Platform Specialist (W-1) Vehicle employment advisor, mobility specialist, and recovery authority.
Heavy Weapons Vehicle Master Gunner (E-7) Coordination of platoon heavy weapons and vehicle-mounted fire support.

The Platform Specialist serves as the platoon's subject-matter expert on the AV-35 family of vehicles. He advises the Platoon Leader on mobility, recovery operations, route selection, obstacle crossing, and vehicle employment.

The Master Gunner remains mounted during most combat operations and coordinates the platoon's heavy weapons and vehicle-mounted firepower while the Heavy Weapons Squad operates dismounted.

Vehicle Assignments

Vehicle Assigned Personnel
Assault Vehicle 1 Platoon Leader, Driver, Gunner, Assault Squad #1
Assault Vehicle 2 Platoon Sergeant, Driver, Gunner, Assault Squad #2

Each carrier therefore contains a twelve-man vehicle fighting package consisting of a Vehicle Commander, Driver, Gunner, and nine embarked infantrymen.

Heavy Weapons Squad

The Heavy Weapons Squad provides anti-armor capability, obstacle reduction, casualty treatment, demolitions support, and additional suppressive fire.

Vehicle Crew Structure

Each AV-35-C is operated by a permanent two-man crew and commanded by a Vehicle Commander.

Position Armament Combat Load Role
Driver SMG-32 120 rounds Vehicle operation and navigation.
Gunner P-32 Service Pistol 36 rounds Operation of twin 12.5mm heavy machine guns.
Vehicle Commander P-32 Service Pistol 36 rounds Tactical employment of vehicle and embarked troops.

Vehicle crews remain with their carriers throughout combat operations and are considered an integral component of the platoon's fighting strength.

Vehicle Firepower

Unlike conventional infantry formations, a significant portion of the Assault Platoon's combat power is provided by its assigned AV-35-C carriers.

Weapon System Per Vehicle Platoon Total Ammunition
12.5mm Heavy Machine Gun 2 8 12,000 rounds
Total 8 HMG Barrels 12,000 rounds

Each AV-35-C mounts twin 12.5mm heavy machine guns and carries 1,500 rounds per weapon.

These weapons are routinely employed against enemy strongpoints, machine-gun nests, trench systems, observation posts, light vehicles, and fortified positions before infantry dismount and assault.

Platoon Weapons Summary

Weapon System Quantity Notes
BR-35 Battle Rifle 24 Primary weapon of Assault Infantry personnel.
SMG-32 9 Three grenadiers, two combat engineers, and four drivers.
P-32 Service Pistol 18 Vehicle commanders, vehicle gunners, squad leaders, medics, RL gunners, and specialists.
LMG-39 4 Three Assault Squad weapons plus one Heavy Weapons Squad weapon.
GL-34 Problem Solver 3 One issued per Assault Squad.
RL-36 Anti-Tank Launcher 2 Heavy Weapons Squad anti-armor systems.
12.5mm Heavy Machine Gun 8 Vehicle-mounted weapons.

Vehicular Sustainment

Unlike Mobile Infantry formations, Assault Platoons possess no dedicated logistics or reserve vehicle.

Each AV-35-C carries:

  • Three complete combat reloads for its embarked element
  • Additional rifle ammunition
  • Additional machine-gun ammunition
  • Additional grenade launcher ammunition
  • Additional anti-armor rockets
  • Water and emergency rations
  • Medical supplies
  • Personal equipment storage

This arrangement reflects Assault Infantry doctrine, which assumes operations will remain within vehicle support range and prioritizes offensive capability over prolonged independent sustainment.

Operational Doctrine

Assault Platoons are intended to destroy resistance rather than absorb it.

A typical attack sequence consists of:

  1. Vehicle-mounted heavy machine guns suppress enemy positions.
  2. RL-36 teams engage armored vehicles and hardened targets.
  3. GL-34 grenadiers neutralize trenches, bunkers, and covered positions.
  4. Combat Engineers breach obstacles and fortifications.
  5. Assault Squads maneuver through the breach and secure the objective.

Once resistance is destroyed and the objective secured, follow-on Mobile Infantry formations are expected to reinforce the position and prepare for counterattack.

Notes

  • Assault Platoons are fully mechanized and operate exclusively from AV-35-C carriers.
  • No dedicated command, logistics, or support vehicle exists within the platoon.
  • Command personnel are intentionally distributed among multiple carriers.
  • Vehicle-mounted firepower forms a significant portion of the platoon's combat capability.
  • Vehicle commanders carry pistols while mounted due to the confined interior of the AV-35-C.
