During convoy movement, the VMG-33 remains mounted on the Mule and provides en route security, ambush response, and immediate covering fire.
Upon reaching the objective, the team is expected to execute a '''1-minute basic fire-position drill'''. This establishes immediate overwatch while the rest of the company dismounts, spreads out, and begins digging fighting positions.
Once the company’s permanent defensive line is established, the VMG teams shift into their final dug-in firing positions.
