Assault Platoon

The Assault Platoon is the primary maneuver formation of Gondaran Assault Infantry. Built around four AV-35-C mechanized assault carriers, it combines infantry, heavy weapons, combat engineers, medical support, and vehicle-mounted firepower into a single offensive combat package.

Unlike Mobile Infantry Platoons, Assault Platoons are designed to breach enemy defenses, destroy resistance, seize objectives, and maintain momentum during offensive operations. Their organization prioritizes concentrated firepower, mobility, and rapid assault capability rather than long-duration defensive operations.

Organization

Element Qty Personnel Vehicles Notes
Assault Squad 3 27 AV-35-C Primary assault maneuver elements.
Heavy Weapons Squad 1 9 1× AV-35-C Platoon-level anti-armor, breaching, and suppressive fire support.
Platoon Leadership 1 4 Included above Platoon command personnel distributed among carriers.
Vehicle Crews 4 8 Included above Drivers and gunners assigned to each carrier.
Total 48 4× AV-35-C Fully mechanized assault formation.

Platoon Command Structure

Command personnel are deliberately distributed throughout the platoon to prevent a single vehicle loss from disrupting leadership and control.

Vehicle Assigned Leader Primary Responsibility
Assault Squad Vehicle 1 Platoon Leader (O-1) Tactical command and maneuver control.
Assault Squad Vehicle 2 Platoon Sergeant (E-7) Discipline, casualty management, and execution.
Assault Squad Vehicle 3 Platform Specialist (W-2) Vehicle employment, recovery decisions, and technical expertise.
Heavy Weapons Vehicle Master Gunner Coordination of platoon fire support and heavy weapons.

The Platform Specialist serves as the platoon's subject-matter expert on the AV-35 platform and oversees vehicle employment, damage assessment, and emergency recovery operations.

Heavy Weapons Squad

The Heavy Weapons Squad provides anti-armor capability, obstacle reduction, demolitions support, casualty care, and additional suppressive fire.

Position Armament Role
Squad Leader BR-35 Battle Rifle Commands Heavy Weapons Squad.
Medic P-32 Service Pistol Casualty treatment and stabilization.
RL-36 Gunner RL-36 Anti-Tank Launcher, P-32 Anti-armor and hard-target engagement.
RL-36 Assistant Gunner BR-35, 4 rockets Carries ammunition and assists gunner.
RL-36 Gunner RL-36, P-32 Anti-armor and hard-target engagement.
RL-36 Assistant Gunner BR-35, 4 rockets Carries ammunition and assists gunner.
LMG-39 Gunner LMG-39, P-32 Additional suppressive fire.
Combat Engineer SMG-32 Breaching, demolitions, obstacle reduction.
Combat Engineer SMG-32 Breaching, demolitions, obstacle reduction.

Vehicle Firepower

Unlike conventional infantry formations, a significant portion of the Assault Platoon's combat power is provided by its assigned AV-35-C carriers.

Each carrier mounts twin 12.5mm heavy machine guns with substantial ammunition reserves.

Weapon System Per Vehicle Platoon Total Ammunition
12.5mm Heavy Machine Gun 2 8 6,000 rounds
Total 8 HMG Barrels 6,000 rounds

Each AV-35-C carries 1,500 rounds of 12.5mm ammunition, divided equally between its two machine guns.

These weapons are routinely employed to suppress enemy strongpoints, machine-gun nests, trench systems, observation towers, light vehicles, and fortified positions before infantry dismount and assault.

Platoon Weapons Summary

Weapon System Qty Notes
BR-35 Battle Rifle 26 Primary weapon of Assault Infantry.
SMG-32 5 Issued to grenadiers and combat engineers.
P-32 Service Pistol 5 Issued to specialist personnel.
LMG-39 4 Three squad weapons plus one Heavy Weapons Squad weapon.
GL-34 "Problem Solver" 3 One issued per Assault Squad.
RL-36 Anti-Tank Launcher 2 Heavy Weapons Squad anti-armor systems.
12.5mm Heavy Machine Gun 8 Vehicle-mounted weapons.

Vehicle Crew Structure

Each AV-35-C is operated by a dedicated two-man crew.

Position Armament Role
Driver P-32 Service Pistol Vehicle operation and navigation.
Gunner P-32 Service Pistol Operation of twin 12.5mm machine guns.

Vehicle crews remain with their carriers during combat and are considered part of the platoon's overall combat system.

Vehicular Sustainment

Unlike Mobile Infantry formations, Assault Platoons possess no dedicated logistics or reserve vehicle.

Each AV-35-C carries:

  • Three complete combat reloads for its embarked squad
  • Additional rifle ammunition
  • Additional machine-gun ammunition
  • Additional grenade launcher ammunition
  • Additional rockets for RL-36 teams
  • Water and emergency rations
  • Medical supplies
  • Personal equipment storage

This arrangement reflects Assault Infantry doctrine, which assumes operations will remain within vehicle support range and prioritizes offensive capability over prolonged independent sustainment.

Operational Doctrine

Assault Platoons are intended to destroy resistance rather than absorb it.

A typical attack sequence consists of:

  1. Vehicle-mounted heavy machine guns suppress enemy positions.
  2. RL-36 teams engage armored vehicles and hardened targets.
  3. GL-34 grenadiers neutralize trenches, bunkers, and cover positions.
  4. Combat Engineers breach obstacles and fortifications.
  5. Assault Squads maneuver through the breach and secure the objective.

Once resistance is destroyed and the objective secured, follow-on Mobile Infantry formations are expected to reinforce the position and prepare for counterattack.

Notes

  • Assault Platoons are fully mechanized and operate exclusively from AV-35-C carriers.
  • No dedicated command, logistics, or support vehicle exists within the platoon.
  • Command personnel are intentionally distributed among multiple carriers.
  • Vehicle-mounted firepower forms a significant portion of the platoon's combat capability.
  • Costs are listed in Gondaran Currency (G), equivalent to 1930s–1940s USD.

Total platoon strength: 48 personnel
Vehicle strength: 4× AV-35-C Mechanized Assault Carriers
