Vidar Pass

Vidar Pass is the primary east–west crossing through the Vidar Mountain System, located within the Outer Vidar Range. It connects the Talakar Forest to the interior Titanwood systems of the Titania Region and represents the most significant natural transit corridor across Gondara’s western mountain barrier.

Unlike narrow mountain passes, Vidar Pass occupies a broad, structured corridor shaped by elevation, climate, and terrain.

Geographic Position

Vidar Pass lies between approximately:

  • 25°30′S – 25°45′S latitude
  • 146°30′W – 148°30′W longitude

This fixed latitudinal band defines the primary crossing point through the Vidar system and aligns with a zone of reduced elevation and structural weakness within the range.

The pass is located northwest of the Titanwood Cathedral and forms the only major ecological and infrastructural link between western and interior Titanwood environments.

Structure

Vidar Pass consists of two distinct components:

Corridor

The full crossing corridor extends approximately 120–125 miles from the western foothills of the Talakar region through the mountain system and into the interior.

This corridor includes:

  • Western Titanwood foothills
  • Gradual ascent into the mountain system
  • The elevated pass zone
  • Eastern descent into the Titania Region

Pass Proper

Within the broader corridor, the elevated pass proper forms a 35–50 mile section characterized by:

  • Moderate to high elevation
  • Strong and persistent wind exposure
  • Shallow and unstable soils
  • Fragmented terrain and disrupted vegetation

TThis zone represents the highest viable elevation for Titanwood growth in Gondara, occurring within an elevation band of approximately 8,000 to 8,400 feet.

Ecology

Vidar Pass marks the upper environmental limit of Titanwood growth.

Titanwood Limit Zone

Titanwoods within the pass differ significantly from those found in the Talakar Forest and Titanwood Cathedral:

  • Trees are shorter and more widely spaced
  • Canopies do not fully connect
  • Large gaps are common
  • Fallen giants create extensive timber fields

These conditions result from:

  • Persistent high winds
  • Reduced soil depth and stability
  • Increased exposure at elevation

The pass represents the only known region where Titanwoods fail to form a continuous canopy, creating a fragmented and unstable forest environment.

Titan Bear Crossing

Despite its harsh conditions, Vidar Pass serves as the primary crossing route for Titan Bears.
