Overview

The AV-35-C is the primary mechanized troop transport of the Army of Gondara. Designed as part of the AV-35 unified armored vehicle program, the C variant serves as both an infantry carrier and a frontline assault platform.

Unlike traditional troop transports, the AV-35-C integrates direct fire capability, amphibious mobility, and enhanced crew protection into a single vehicle.

Design Characteristics

The AV-35-C is built on the standardized AV-35 chassis, optimized for air-mobile deployment while retaining structural capacity for heavier variants.

Key design features include:

  • Front-mounted engine for crew protection
  • Central turret mount with dual-purpose armament
  • V-shaped hull for mine blast deflection
  • Torsion bar suspension for off-road performance
  • Wide low-pressure tracks for terrain mobility and amphibious flotation

The vehicle is intentionally overbuilt relative to its operational weight to support the broader AV-35 platform family.

Crew and Transport Layout

The AV-35-C operates with a four-man crew:

  • Driver
  • Gunner
  • Vehicle Commander
  • Crew Chief (Infantry Squad Leader)

The vehicle carries eight dismount infantry in a central compartment, seated back-to-back and facing outward.

The Crew Chief serves as the squad leader, making the carried unit a nine-man infantry squad integrated with the vehicle.

Field Serviceability

The AV-35-C benefits from high parts commonality with other AV-35 variants, simplifying maintenance and repair.

Key features:

  • Standardized components across vehicle family
  • Front-access engine configuration
  • Modular armor system for field upgrades
  • Simplified drivetrain access

Early production vehicles experienced mechanical challenges due to the complexity of the unified chassis design.

Operational Use

The AV-35-C functions as a mechanized assault carrier, supporting:

  • Infantry transport under armor
  • Direct fire support via turreted machine guns
  • Rapid deployment of assault units
  • Amphibious river and terrain crossing

Vehicles are assigned at the platoon level rather than to individual squads.

Configurations

Standard configuration includes:

  • Base air-mobile armor scheme
  • Dual 12.5mm turret
  • Internal fuel system

Optional configurations:

  • Expansion armor plating
  • External breakout fuel tank
  • Mission-specific equipment packages

Armament

Primary armament consists of:

  • Dual 12.5mm heavy machine guns
  • Long heavy-barrel configuration
  • Opposing feed system
  • 750-round belt drums per weapon
  • 80° elevation capability
  • Aircraft sighting system

This allows the AV-35-C to provide both ground suppression and limited anti-aircraft fire.

Limitations

  • Light armor relative to tank-class vehicles
  • High fuel consumption
  • Limited anti-armor capability
  • Early production mechanical reliability concerns
  • Amphibious performance limited to low-speed water movement

Summary

The AV-35-C represents Gondara’s approach to mechanized warfare: a unified, adaptable, and combat-capable transport platform designed to reduce logistical complexity while maintaining battlefield effectiveness.
