Daughters of the Circle

From Gondara Wiki

Daughtership

Daughtership is the institutional guardianship administered by the Sewing Circle for women who cannot or will not enter male guardianship.

Because Gondaran society requires all women to exist under guardianship, Daughtership functions as the structural failsafe of the system.

It ensures that no woman remains socially unplaced.

Daughtership is not considered punishment and may not be used as a disciplinary threat.

It occurs under lawful circumstances such as:

  • inability to secure guardianship
  • voluntary renunciation of seeking
  • court determination
  • exceptional social circumstances preventing male guardianship.

Before a woman may be placed under Daughterhood, the Sewing Circle must conduct a formal call for guardianship. In this process the Circle announces that a woman requires lawful guardianship and invites qualified men of the community to volunteer. Elders review the candidates and determine whether a suitable guardian can be appointed.

This practice ensures that institutional guardianship remains a measure of last resort and reinforces the principle that the community bears responsibility for the care and placement of its members.
