Overview
The UV-32E Mule is an extended-wheelbase variant of the standard UV-32 Mule, developed primarily for reconnaissance, routefinder, engineer scout, and long-range patrol duties within the Army of Gondara.
The vehicle retains the mechanical simplicity and field durability of the original Mule while providing increased personnel capacity and additional patrol equipment storage for extended operational missions.
Design Characteristics
The UV-32E is built around a lengthened version of the standard Mule chassis, extending the rear body section approximately four feet to accommodate a third removable seating row and additional field gear storage.
The extended seating arrangement allows transport of a six-man reconnaissance or routefinder team while maintaining enough internal space for combat-equipped personnel operating with patrol packs, radios, optics, engineering tools, and sustainment supplies.
The rear seating row is configured in a back-to-back arrangement with the second row in order to maximize interior space efficiency while preserving rapid dismount capability.
To reduce interior congestion, the UV-32E incorporates reinforced external rucksack rails mounted along the outer cargo frame. These rails allow patrol packs and bedrolls to be externally secured during movement operations.
The vehicle maintains the standard 3.0 liter inline four-cylinder gasoline engine, 4-speed manual transmission, four-wheel drive system, and solid axle leaf spring suspension of the original UV-32 Mule.
Field Serviceability
The UV-32E is intentionally designed to remain mechanically compatible with the standard UV-32 Mule wherever practical.
Shared systems include:
- Engine
- Transmission
- Suspension components
- Wheel assemblies
- Tool requirements
- Field maintenance procedures
This minimizes logistical burden and allows reconnaissance formations to draw from existing Mule maintenance and spare-part inventories.
Operational Use
The UV-32E is primarily assigned to:
- Brigade reconnaissance formations
- Routefinder teams
- Engineer reconnaissance patrols
- Signals and liaison elements
- Extended-range scouting missions
The additional seating and storage capacity make the vehicle particularly suited for operations requiring dismounted observation, bridge inspection, route assessment, and prolonged patrol activity away from primary brigade formations.
Configurations
Common field configurations include:
- Reconnaissance Configuration — six-man patrol team with radios and optics
- Routefinder Configuration — engineer scout equipment and route marking tools
- Command Configuration — maps, radios, and liaison equipment
- Cargo Configuration — reduced seating with expanded sustainment storage
Armament
The UV-32E Mule is not a dedicated combat vehicle but retains the Universal MG Mount integrated into the roll bar system.
Approved armament configurations include:
Mounted armament is primarily intended for convoy defense, patrol security, and emergency defensive operations.
Limitations
Despite its increased utility, the UV-32E retains many limitations inherent to the original Mule platform:
- Open crew compartment
- Limited protection against small arms or artillery fragments
- Reduced off-road maneuverability compared to the standard UV-32 under maximum load
- Increased turning radius due to extended chassis
- Vulnerability during sustained combat operations
Summary
The UV-32E Mule extends the operational flexibility of the original Mule platform without introducing a separate logistical vehicle family. It provides reconnaissance and routefinder formations with increased personnel capacity, greater sustainment capability, and improved patrol endurance while preserving the simplicity and maintainability valued by Gondaran operational doctrine.
