Overview
The Vantage-Class Heavy Cruiser is the Republic of Gondara Navy's principal heavy surface combatant. Commissioned in 1938, the class was developed to decisively overmatch contemporary treaty heavy cruisers while providing the endurance and survivability necessary for worldwide fleet operations and protection of Gondaran maritime interests.
Unlike the Skylook-Class Light Cruiser, which specializes in fleet air defense, the Vantage-class is optimized for surface warfare, acting as the primary cruiser force supporting battleships during major fleet engagements.
Development
The Vantage-class was developed to provide the Republic of Gondara Navy with a cruiser capable of defeating any contemporary heavy cruiser while remaining fast enough to operate alongside modern carrier task forces.
Rather than emphasizing torpedo attacks, Gondaran naval architects prioritized armor protection, sustained gunnery, and structural resilience. The resulting design became the Navy's standard heavy cruiser and established the foundation for Gondaran surface combat doctrine leading into the Second World War.
Design
Main Battery
The class is centered around the 225 mm naval gun, the largest caliber employed by the Republic of Gondara Army or Navy outside of battleship armament. Although commissioned before operational naval radar became available, the class was engineered with substantial electrical and structural reserve capacity. Reinforced Titanwood masts, oversized cable trunks, expanded plotting spaces, and additional generating capacity permit the future installation of advanced radar systems, analog fire-control computers, and other electronic equipment without major reconstruction.
Reconnaissance
