Overview
The Warden-class Fleet Destroyer is the Republic of Gondara Navy's first purpose-built fleet destroyer and serves as the principal outer screening combatant of the Gondaran battle fleet. Entering service in 1936, the class was designed to operate alongside battleships, cruisers, and fleet carriers while maintaining the speed necessary to maneuver with the battle line.
Unlike the Shepard-class Frigate, which protects Gondaran assets not requiring fleet speed, the Warden-class is dedicated to protecting the fleet itself. Its combination of high speed, powerful dual-purpose armament, advanced sonar equipment, and heavy torpedo battery enables it to detect, intercept, and destroy threats before they can penetrate the fleet's defensive perimeter.
Development
Background
Following the successful introduction of the Shepard-class Frigate, the Republic of Gondara Navy identified the need for a faster and more heavily armed escort capable of operating continuously with high-speed fleet formations.
Development began in 1935, emphasizing speed, anti-submarine warfare, and offensive torpedo capability while maintaining sufficient gun armament to engage enemy destroyers and other light surface combatants.
The lead ships entered service in 1936.
Design
Hull
The Warden-class utilizes a long, narrow hull optimized for sustained high-speed operations in open-ocean conditions. The design emphasizes maneuverability and rapid acceleration while providing sufficient stability for accurate gunfire during fleet maneuvers.
Propulsion
Power is provided by four boilers driving two high-pressure geared steam turbines producing a combined 60,000 shaft horsepower through two shafts.
The propulsion system allows the class to maintain pace with the Republic of Gondara Navy's capital ships while providing the sprint capability necessary to intercept approaching threats or execute torpedo attacks.

Fleet Destroyers are not employed as convoy escorts except under extraordinary circumstances. Protection of merchant shipping, transports, and other Gondaran assets not requiring fleet speed remains the responsibility of the Navy's frigate force.
Operational Profile
The Warden-class routinely operates with carrier task forces and battle fleets throughout the South Pacific while remaining capable of extended Atlantic deployments.
During fleet operations, destroyers form the outer screening ring, continuously patrolling ahead of the main formation to detect submarines and surface threats. Upon contact, they conduct torpedo attacks, anti-submarine actions, or delaying engagements until supported by the fleet's cruiser screen and battleships.
