Overview

The AV-35 Armored Vehicle Family is the primary mechanized platform of the Army of Gondara during the interwar period. Developed under a unified hull doctrine, the AV-35 program consolidates multiple battlefield roles into a single standardized chassis.

Rather than fielding numerous specialized vehicles, Gondara adopted a singular armored platform capable of fulfilling transport, combat, artillery, and support roles through modular configuration.


Design Philosophy

The AV-35 family was developed under the principle of system standardization over platform specialization.

Core principles include:

  • One chassis supporting multiple battlefield roles
  • 90% parts commonality across all variants
  • Simplified logistics and maintenance
  • Crew survivability prioritized over vehicle survivability
  • Air-mobile deployment capability (base configuration)
  • Modular armor and turret integration

AV-35 combat weights represent roll-off-fight-ready configuration. Vehicles are transported fueled, armed, and combat-ready. Upon landing, crews immediately mount and proceed to combat operations without requiring assembly, fueling, or reconfiguration.

The AV-35 program represents Gondara’s central armored development effort rather than a single vehicle design.


Construction

All AV-35 variants share a common structural layout:

  • Front-mounted diesel engine
  • Central turret ring capable of accepting up to a 75mm high-velocity cannon
  • Rear troop or mission compartment
  • Torsion bar suspension system
  • Wide low-pressure track system

The chassis is engineered to support up to 30 tons, though most operational variants remain below 20 tons to preserve air mobility.

An integrated rail system allows the installation of field-applied expansion armor packages.


Testing and Development

Development began in 1935 under the direction of Key Weapons Logistics (KWL). Early prototypes focused on validating:

  • Unified chassis adaptability across roles
  • Amphibious capability under combat weight
  • Structural durability under overbuilt drivetrain tolerances
  • Turret interchangeability using adapter ring systems

Initial testing revealed significant mechanical and production challenges due to the complexity of the unified design. These issues were accepted as part of the long-term strategic value of standardization.
