Mission and Doctrine

Gondaran naval design places unusual emphasis on strategic range, sustained speed, heavy-weather performance, logistics, and arriving in distant waters ready to fight. The Navy employs both home-water defense forces and long-range expeditionary vessels, supported by domestic facilities and overseas stations.

This directory records where the Navy is based, replenished, repaired, and supported. Domestic bases are distinguished from overseas sovereign possessions and facilities maintained under treaty, lease, or access agreement. An operating base, a shipyard, and an access port are not necessarily the same type of installation.

Domestic Bases and Facilities

Base or facility Location Principal function Access / status Reference
South Port East Vantage (State of East Vantage) Restricted naval harbor, submarine facilities, logistics, and Coast Guard support Domestic; restricted to authorized Gondaran traffic South Port

Foreign Sovereign Bases and Stations

These are installations on territory held by Gondara outside the Gondaran mainland or its domestic states. Sovereign possession is distinct from a lease or foreign port-access agreement.

Base or station Location Legal status Principal function Established / reference
Port Navarino Navarino Island, with Picton, Lennox, Nueva, and associated smaller islands near Cape Horn Gondaran overseas sovereign possession Sheltered harbor, repairs, replenishment, crew recovery, Southern Ocean staging, and fortified naval defense 1818 · Port Navarino history

Treaty, Leased, and Foreign Access Facilities

A foreign naval facility may be held under a lease, treaty, concession, or limited access arrangement without constituting Gondaran sovereign territory. Record the host country and legal basis before assigning it a status.

No installations in this category have yet been documented in the current wiki export. Add confirmed agreements here as they are established.

Shipyards and repair facilities should be recorded here even when they are not independent naval bases. The Navy's historical and modern vessel articles identify the Sarthuun naval yards and Sarthuun-class construction at Southeastern Delta Shipyards; the precise locations and base relationships can be expanded when established.

Historical Development

Age of Sail

Gondara's early fleet developed during the Warm War, when merchant protection and extended cruising demanded ships able to survive long Pacific passages. The Resolute-Class Capital Frigate became the Republic's largest sailing warship, with overseas endurance taking priority over building European-style ships of the line. The establishment of Port Navarino in 1818 improved Gondara's ability to sustain Atlantic and Pacific operations.

Industrial and Modern Fleet

Subsequent generations of steel surface combatants, carriers, and submarines retained the importance of operational reach and support infrastructure. Their armament and technical characteristics are documented in the linked class articles.
